Dances of Universal Peace

Dancing Across Time

$135 late registration fee ($100 if under age 30) includes a full weekend of dancing, lodging, and dinners - plus music and dance instruction classes.


Led By

Tui Wilschinski has led heart-opening events for over 40 years and currently leads dances in Sebastopol.

Yarrow Nelson has led Dances of Universal Peace for over 30 years and currently leads dances in San Luis Obispo.

Sára Rain, at age 35, is one of the youngest certified DUP leaders. She is gifted in her abilities to engage youths to go deeper witht he Dances of Universal Peace.Web site

Judy Piazza will lead a workshop on "Rhythms and Percussion for the Dances of Universal Peace". Judy is an internationally know musician and music therapist. Web site

Youth Retreat

The Youth Retreat features special dance circles and activities targeted to those under 30 who want to go deeper with the dances. Other activities will be held jointly with those over 30. Anyone under 18 attending without a parent, must provide a parent/guardian signature (and must register by mail).


When

3:30pm Saturday Jan 14 through Noon Monday Jan 16 (MLK Day).  Check-in between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday.


Where

Circle V Ranch, in Los Padres National Forest, 20 miles NW of Santa Barbara, near Cachuma Lake.  This site is blessed with natural beauty and spacious surroundings.

From Los Angeles/Ventura/SB downtown, take 101 North:

In Santa Barbara, exit at Hwy 154 (San Marcos Pass Rd) and continue on 154 for 17 miles.  Turn left at the Circle V Ranch sign (which is just past the sign saying 3/4 mile to Cachuma Lake Recreation Area).  Go 1.5 miles to the camp, following the "Circle V" signs. Check-in at the Dining Hall.

From San Luis Obispo/Oakland/SB airport, take 101 South:

Exit at Hwy 154 (Los Olivos, San Marcos Pass Rd) and continue on 154 for 15 miles. Just after Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, turn right at the Circle V Ranch sign.  Go 1.5 miles to the camp, following the "Circle V" signs. Check-in at the Dining Hall.

By Air or Amtrak (we will try to arrange to pick you up):

What to Bring

Vegetarian dinners will be provided both Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Bring your own food/beverages for breakfasts and lunches (or eat our leftovers or food shared by others potluck-style).  A large vegetarian kitchen is available for our use. Bring your own bedding or sleeping bag, pillow, towel, toiletries, flashlight, and warm clothing for winter evenings at 1200 ft elevation.  Please do not bring drugs or alcohol - these items are strictly prohibited on Camp facilities.

 Optional: Bring objects for altar/decoration, firewood, a yoga mat, and white "Christmas tree" lights.


Housing

Housing consists of several large shared, heated cabins, each with plenty of space in which to spread out. Cabin space is not pre-assigned.


Weather Forecast

The forecast is for highs 60-70 and lows in the upper 20s, partly cloudy and no precipitation.


Cost

Late registration fee is $135 ($100 for those under age 30) includes lodging and dinners.  No reduced fees for partial attendance or partial facility use.

Cancellation policy: Full refund available until Jan 12.

Space is still available, so if you have not yet registered and would like to attend, you can show up and register pay onsite. Anyone under 18 attending without a parent, must register by mail and provide a parent/guardian signature.

Leaders

TuiDr. Tui Wilschinsky has been joyously leading the Dances of Universal Peace and facilitating heart opening events for 40 years. He started leading and living at the Lama Foundation, then led while traveling with Ram Dass, and, at present, he teaches in Northern California and internationally, most recently in New Zealand, France, England and at Findhorn in Scotland. He a senior mentor of the Dances of Universal Peace, an Expressive Arts educator and consultant, a teacher of mathematics and science, a permaculture-based bio-ethanol fuel advocate, and a senior teacher within the Ruhaniat Sufi tradition. Tui has a B.A. in Chemistry and Mathematics, an M.A. in Humanistic/Transpersonal Psychology, and an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from the California Institute for Integral Studies in Cinema, Psychology, and Sociology. He has led the Dances while working with Ram Dass, Joanna Macy, Sazaki Roshi, Rabbi Zahlman Schachter, Matthew Fox, and other remarkable beings. He has taught at the Findhorn Foundation and the Shambala Center in Scotland, at the Lama Foundation in New Mexico, at Sonoma State University, the California Institute for Integral Studies, the Person Centered Expressive Arts Institute, the University of Creation Spirituality, New College, The Abode of the Message, at many Waldorf schools, and most recently has toured New Zealand, France, and the UK. Tui seeks to gently subvert the dominant paradigm.

Sara

Sára Rain was introduced to the Dances of Universal Peace in 1992 when she was 17 years old. She began leading dances at 22 as a part of rituals honoring the cycles and seasons of the Earth. Now 35, she has begun traveling to teach dances, Zikr, ceremony and Sufi practices around the United States and beyond. She is mentored by Timothy Dobson and her Sufi teacher is Leilah Be. Sara believes in blending the rich, foundational lineage of the Dances, reverence and honor for Murshid Samuel Lewis and Pir-O-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan, with the living, breathing, dynamic and fresh life-force of today's Dancing communities. She lives in Colorado and works as a Spiritual Mentor, Inter-Faith Minister, DUP and Zikr leader, mentor-in-training, chant and ritual facilitator. She leads a popular weekly DUP dance series in Ft.
